Description
Large Chinese lacquer altar or dining table, rectangular form decorated in the qiangjin and polychrome tianqi techniques. The top with large central reserve depicting birds and butterflies resting among flowering branches, bordered by reserves depicting flowers and peaches on a diapered ground; the pierced side and carved apron with reserves depicting opposing dragons on a foliate ground and incised jui-head decoration, all on a diapered ground; the knees with jui-head decoration; and scrolling foliate decoration to the curved legs and pad feet. Underside with ebonized finish. 30 1/2" H x 74" W x 34 1/2" D. Late 19th/Early 20th century.Provenance: The Estate of James W. Perkins, Jr., Nashville, Tennessee.
Condition
Overall good condition and structurally sound. Top with overall craquelure to surface and some scattered losses to paint decoration and a couple of areas of paint/lacquer repair in upper left quadrant of top. Legs with overall general wear and fading to paint, feet with losses and scuffing to lacquered surface, one knee with paint/lacquer repair.
