George II dropleaf Pembroke or breakfast table with inset engraved brass plaque stating the table was made "out of the Chestnut Tree which grew at Emhaven in Angus Shire whose Dimensions as taken and attested by several of the Justices of the Peace of that county, the 20th of Aprile 1745 were as follows altho at the time the tree was mostly divested of its bark being killed by the severe frost in Winter 1740." (An engraving of a tree and the dimensions of the tree are also recorded on the inset plaque). Oak or chestnut secondary wood with rose head nails. Rectangular top with plain drop leaves; each side with molded, dovetailed drawer having a brass lock and escutcheon. Four plain square legs joined by a full length/full width undertier. 27 3/4"H x 36"W (leaves extended) x 36"D. Scottish, mid 18th century.Provenance: The Estate of David B. Full separation to top board. Staining and scratches to tops and leaves. Leaf supports replaced. Most molding missing to edge below drawer on one side; the other side is completely missing its molding. Shrinkage and cracks to undertier. 1 drawer lock missing. Shrinkage cracks to interior of drawers. Losses to drawer molding on both drawers. Wear to engraving.
