Description
A ROCOCO REVIVAL GILT BRASS AND POLISHED STEEL FIREPLACE FENDER, POSSIBLY ENGLISH, 19TH CENTURY, the long serpentine steel body with rounded ends mounted with foliate cast blossoming "C" scroll pendants, above a conforming unadorned frieze and enclosing two hexagonal columnar utensil supports topped by curling brass prongs, raised on scrolling feet surmounted by undulating leafy bronze pendants, includes one brass and steel handled shovel with one matching poker. Height: 16" Width: 72" Depth: 13" Provenance: Private Collection, Houston, Texas
Condition
Good condition with normal marks, scratches, oxidized spots, worn gilding, polish residue in crevices, left top mount is slightly bent, and expected general wear for fireplace furniture of this age, use, and materials.
