Description
Photographic print on paper of "The Capitol Nashville" by George Barnard, from an image taken during the Civil War in the early 1860s and originally published in his photographically illustrated book, "Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign: George Barnard: New York, 1866". Depicts the Capital Building (designed by William Strickland) near completion with military tents at the foot of the hill, probably during the Union occupation of Nashville. Grey mat with ebonized frame. 12" x 17" sight, 12" x 26" framed. Provenance: purchased at the 2006 auction of the collection of Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin Caldwell, Nashville.

Creases, minor losses, cleaned and deacidified. New archival frame and mat.
