Description
Grouping of five Civil War era cartes de visite. 1st item: CDV of Parson Brownlow show seated with his hand tucked into his vast, printed by J. E. Tilton & Co., Boston. (4" H x 2-1/2" W) Note: Brownlow was an anti-secessionist circuit rider and newspaper editor but also a slaveholder. After being forced into exile in the North during the Civil War, he replaced Andrew Johnson as the governor of Tennessee in 1865. 2nd item: CDV of John Wilkes Booth set in an embossed paper mount with flags, cannons and eagle, no backmark, with pencil inscription "John Wilkes Booth who shot Lincoln". 4" H x 2-1/2" W. 3rd item: CDV depicting a Civil War Union soldier posed with a chair printed by Dellinger's Lancaster, PA. 4" H x 2-1/2" W. 4th item: CDV depicting a Civil War soldier show seated printed by Charles Cohill Philadelphia, PA. 4" H x 2-1/2" W. 5th item: Civil War era CDV depicting three Southern gentlemen playing cards with drinks and cigars. Printed by Lunquest's, Cuthbert, GA. 4" H x 2-1/2" W.

1st item: Some toning, overall very good. 2nd item: Overall toning, minor spotting lower margin. 3rd item: Overall toning, losses upper margin. 4th item: Overall toning, clipped corners and tear lower left margin. 5th item: Overall toning, some spotting and clipped corners.
