Cornelius Hankins (Cornelius Haly Hankins, Mississippi/Tennessee, 1863-1946) oil on board river scene of Nashville, Tennessee depicting riverboat landing near Broad street and the Cumberland river. Initialed lower right "C. H." Housed in a gilt molded wooden frame. Sight - 6 5/8" H x 10" W. Framed - 14 1/2" H x 18" W. Late 19th/Early 20th century. Note: Hankins studied with Robert Henri, leader of the Ashcan school, and William Merritt Chase in New York before settling in Nashville. He was also associated with George Chambers of the Nashville School of Art and, in addition to painting many Tennessee landscapes, also received a number of portrait commissions.
