Description

Two (2) Pre-Columbian end-blown conch shell trumpets with end flanges having a drilled hole for hanging rope. 9" and 7 1/2" lengths. Provenance - collection of Dr. Lewis B. Hilton (d. 1997), professor emeritus of music education at Washington University. Research by Dr. Hilton included musical instruments of Mexico before the Cortez era. An article dated March 1968 in the St. Louis Post Dispatch pictures Dr. Hilton with these two trumpets on a table with other Pre-Columbian instruments.
