Description
Grouping of three (3) related Druggist or Apothecary jugs including one (1) KY. 1st item - Large Kentucky stoneware pottery druggist jug with incised script, "Nock & Snyder Druggists, Market & 2d Streets, Louisville, Ky". Note: Robert Snyder was born in Paris, Ky in 1847. In 1870 he took a position with the firm of Wm. Nock & Son, the oldest drug house west of the Alleghenies. In 1881, he purchased half interest and the firm name was changed to Nock & Snyder. Mr. Snyder was the director of the Louisville College of Pharmacy for over twenty years and was one of the first members of the Kentucky Pharmaceutical Association. Albany slip glaze. 10 1/2"H. Late 19th century. 2nd item - Apothecary Poison jug with albany slip glaze and large white pebble glazed design of skull and crossbones on the side. 7 7/8" H. Late 19th century. 3rd item - Small stoneware glazed jar with "Mercury" in cobalt on side. Late 19th/Early 20th century. Provenance: Yates estate, Greeneville, Tennessee.
Condition
1st item - overall very good condition with minor chip to underside of base edge. 2nd and 3rd items - overall very good condition.
