Description
Grouping of three (3) Greene County, Tennessee stoneware jars. 1st item - Stoneware jar with incised script, "GW" with two incised lines around the jar above the script, flattened rim and slightly tapered base edge. Attributed to George W. McFarland (1875-1899), Greene Co. and associated with the M.P. Harmon pottery in Mohawk). 10" H. 2nd item - Stoneware jar with five bands of sine waves around the midsection, lug handles, flattened rim. Attributed to the M. P. Harmon pottery. 12 1/2"H. 3rd item - Stoneware jar with a flattened rim, darker fired body. Inscriptions vertically on side with various numbers and possibly a partial name inscription. Mrs. Yates had a note inside the jar attributing to a Willoughby pottery of Greene Co. This has not been verified. 10" H. All Late 19th century. Provenance - Yates estate, Greeneville, TN.
Condition
1st item - Overall very good condition with minor chip to inside and outside of rim edge. 2nd - large rim chip and crack extending from chip, smaller rim edge chips and some roughness to base edge. 3rd item - even wear to glaze around rim edge with minor wear to glaze on base edge.
