Additional Information & Circa: T-Shirt with three silkscreened versions of the portrait of model Joe MacDonald, signed front and back by the artist Andy Warhol. We believe the work to be unique, a gift by the artist to the subject, accompanying the large original wall portrait for which Mr. MacDonald traded a fine collection of Lalique art glass Mr. Warhol had admired for some time. Mr. Warhol retained other rights to the portrait (See, for example, top row of dust cover of Andy Warhol, Portraits of the 70s, 1979). There is significant staining, primarily on the arms, neck and lower edge of the shirt. Consignor says he did not consider the work of art when purchased, but instead a keepsake and charitable donation in memory of his friend, so he displayed in an inexpensive acrylic box frame, leaving the outer edges exposed to the elements for many years. There appears to be some fading of the images. In addition, there a few small repairs and holes, but since the artist was known to use irregular t-shirts for this sort of studio work, we believe the latter original to the piece.
