Palekh Russian Lacquer wall hanging. Large panel with metal fittings on back to allow for easy hanging. The panel depicts some kind of celebration possibly a birth or a wedding. In the center a woman is seated surrounded by other women adorning her with flowers. From the left a group of women come bearing jugs and food and from the right a group of men come playing various musical instruments. In the background there are two churches. From one a procession of people exits led by a horse drawn carriage with newly-weds inside. There are sheep, dogs, flying angels and many different species of birds throughout along with an abundance of trees and foliage. The painting is done in vibrant colors predominantly green with red, yellow and blue accents and gold detailing. Signed and dated 2000. (Approx. ½" x 16" x 19 ¾").
