The Company

In the past twenty years, the huge world marketplace for goods and services has fragmented into many sub-markets - each with their own buying habits. Therefore, the method by which you reach your buying market has taken on critical importance.

That's why the auction method of selling has become increasingly popular for the sale of all types of assets including real estate.

Doug and Mike Macon founded Macon Brothers Auctioneers in 1975 to meet clients' needs to achieve the highest real market value for their assets. Macon Brothers has created an auction team that combines the talent, marketing knowledge and business acumen to professionally manage either your small sales or sophisticated, multi-demographic and multi-regional auctions.

Both brothers are CAI designated, which means that they have met and abide by the rigorous educational and ethical standards of the Certified Auctioneers Institute which consists of a three-year course of study at Indiana University in Bloomington. They have also completed an additional two year course of study at Bloomington earning the AARE designation, Accredited Auctioneer of Real Estate. Both brothers have served on the Board of Directors and as President of their respective state associations and are licensed auctioneers and real estate brokers.

Why the auction method
One of the most consequential changes on the current marketing scene has been the rediscovery of the auction method as a very profitable method for successful sales. To really understand the sales possibilities of the auction method, consider the marketing power of the following points. These combined benefits of the auction sales method can give you a marketing and profitability edge.

Strong buyer attraction
Because the auction usually lasts for only a short period of time such as a day or weekend, your potential buyers view it as a special event and give it more importance than they would the same assets offered in a conventional advertisement. For example, most buyers will not set up an appointment or a date on the calendar to enter a car dealership but they will to attend an estate or business liquidation auction where automobiles are offered.

Positive sales environment
Creating a highly charged sales environment has always been a priority for marketers because it stimulates buyers emotionally while reinforcing their buying decisions. The properly designed auction setting can create this enthusiasm. Buyers also realize that, in most cases, the assets displayed will be sold to the highest bidder in a matter of seconds or minutes. Therefore, they have the power to play the pivotal role in determining the final selling price. And that's exciting.

Why consider the auction method of sales? Because it can give you the best dollar values for the real estate or chattel assets you need to sell.

Cost-effective market contact
Auction sales allow for pinpoint accuracy in identifying and reaching your total buying market. At Macon Brothers, we use a time-tested combination of advertising and public relations techniques in order to reach your total audience. Our coordinated marketing plan will attract the exact market for your assets from around the corner or around the world.

Sales flexibility
The auction is the only sales method with the flexibility to sell a wide array of assets, such as those found in a corporate liquidation or an estate sale. Auctions have a proven track record of bringing sale properties their entire fair market price. And this means increased revenues and profitability for you, as seller, that cannot be as easily or quickly attained through other sales methods.

The success of any auction is due to the completion of a vast number of small details prior to the auction day. In fact, ninety percent of our work takes place before the day of the auction. Our comprehensive process included establishing the auction action plan, inspection of assets, computerized accounting and process monitoring, appraisal, categorizing, site selection, comprehensive marketing including advertising and public relations, and using our computerized control systems to enter and tally sales on the auction day. We have the skill to put all of the power of the auction method to work for you.

Besides getting the kind of service that you'd expect from an excellent auction company, we also give you the personal service and care that has been our trademark since our grandfather conducted his first auction in 1906.
