Onslows offers vintage posters June 25 and 27

DORSET, England – Onslows Auctioneers is proud to present a fine sale of Vintage Posters from three high-quality single-owner collections. The British Railway posters portion of the sale offers some of the finest Onslows has ever sold. Live Internet bidding and catalog preview are available at www.LiveAuctioneers.com.

The British Railway posters include some beautiful early designs for the London Electric Railways by artist Edward McKnight Kauffer, who worked extensively for the London Underground between 1914 and 1938.

The collection also includes a series of posters by the great master of color and design, Tom Purvis, who was considered by many the foremost British commercial artist of the 1930s. Purvis, who was brilliant at portraying his subjects using bold blocks of color, worked for the London and North Eastern Railway producing stunning designs. Examples of his work in the auction include "The Coronation," crossing the Royal Border Bridge and some fashionable Austin Reed advertisements showing Royal Ascot race goers and Shooting gent.

Other highlights of the sale include wonderful early cycling, sports, the Cornish Riviera and the famous "Skegness is So Bracing” by John Hassall.

The auction also has a fascinating collection of World War I and II propaganda posters, one of the most poignant being a poster warning of the punishment by death or penal servitude for looting during the London Blitz. Another is the powerful image of the WWI poster Forward to Victory 1915, depicting a cavalry officer on charger by Lucy Kemp Welch.
