August. 22, 2006

DALLAS – On September 13 Dallas Auction Gallery will offer close to 400 lots of fine estate antiques and accessories. As always, everything is consigned direct from local estates and fresh to the market, with LiveAuctioneers.com in association with eBay Live Auctions facilitating the sale’s Internet live bidding.

Featured will be a group of seven paintings by noted Texas artist Franz (Frank) Strahalm, part of a consignment of 12 pieces by the same artist from a West Texas estate. Almost all of the paintings are in their original period frames with pencil titles on the back. Other paintings of interest from local estates include a Cornelis Saftleven oil on canvas and a large Charles Leslie oil on canvas titled Loch by Midnight Perthshire.

From the estate of an 88-year-old antique collector comes a group of over 20 Meissen figures and sewing-related items including a Regency papier-mâché sewing cabinet and two papier-mâché sewing boxes with ivory and mother-of-pearl fittings. Other interesting accessories include a large 19th century Swiss cylinder music box with double comb movement, bells, castanets, drum and organ in inlaid case and a large pair of 18th century carved wood putti. One of the most striking pieces in the auction is a monumental Royal Bonn lidded urn with floral and gilt decoration that measures 50” tall.

Dallas Auction Gallery only sells Oriental rugs that are old and directly out of estates. This auction features a large early Kerman carpet, a very nice Bidjar, a large old Sarouk and several other antique carpets.

There is also a strong selection of Continental furniture in this auction, with one of the highlights being a huge ornately carved walnut and burl walnut 18th century German shrank. Other pieces include a 18th century Louis XV-style provincial commode, a large ornately carved baroque-style center table with breche des alps marble top and an early 19th century Dutch walnut bombé vitrine on chest. English furniture includes a large Georgian mahogany sideboard with concave front and a superb 18th century style armchair with eagle-head arm terminals. And for the musically inclined there is a 1955 walnut-cased Steinway model S baby grand piano in excellent condition.

The clock selection in this auction is highlighted by a very nice quality 19th century French “Three Graces” revolving dial French clock, three tall-case clocks including an 18th century pewter-dial Dutch clock, a huge French 3-piece figural clock set and a very nice Tiffany and Co. carriage clock with repeat mechanism.
