Western antiques and art take center stage June 21-23

(CODY, Wyo.) - Old West fans, historical antique collectors and art lovers alike will find treasures at the 18th annual Cody Old West Show and Auction held June 21-23. The auction offers 400 lots of the best in cowboy, cowgirl and Native American antiques and collectibles, alongside fine western art, graphic memorabilia and furnishings. www.LiveAuctioneers.com will offer live online bidding for the sale.
Historical materials will be auctioned at the sale, including the cowboy gear of an Iron Mountain, Wyo. Rancher; a rare Buffalo Bill Wild West lithograph; a G.S. Garcia presentation saddle; rare Molesworth western furniture from the Valley Ranch in Wyoming; and a large collection of Luis Ortega braided items.
Will James, Frank Tenney Johnson, E.S. Paxson, Herman Hansen, Nick Eggenhofer and Edward Borein are among the artists represented in the sale. Other notable contemporary artists include Joe Beeler, Dave Powell, Harry Jackson and John Moyers.
As always, the mainstay of the Cody sale will be the quality spurs, bits, saddles, chaps, hats and other cowboy or cowgirl regalia. Makers represented at this time include G.S. Garcia, Visalia, F.A. Meanea, R.T. Frazier and G.A. Bischoff. The personal show saddle of Snuff Garrett, a Hollywood icon and past owner of Bohlin Saddlery, will also be auctioned.
A very rare and recently discovered tintype of the infamous Wild Bill Hickok is another sale highlight that will be auctioned alongside gambling and western saloon items, horn furniture, early photography and anything relating to the Wild West. Firearms include Colt Single Actions, Winchester and Sharps rifles, a factory engraved Colt Army and even gun leather from makers Meanea and Gallup. Finally, beaded and quilted Native American pieces and historic Indian textiles, baskets from the 1880s to 1920 will be included in the sale.
The Friday evening festivities at the famous Buffalo Bill Historical Center, benefiting the museum’s educational programs, include food and wine with a fun auction of western items including the best of contemporary makers of saddles, spurs, jewelry, leather tooling, and fine western art.. There will be vintage items as well to keep the theme of the museum alive.
