Size didn't matter to Internet bidders at Alderfer's March 4 sale – nothing was too large or too fragile
March 6, 2004
HATFIELD, Pa. – A Philadelphia Windsor chair, a Pairpoint art glass table lamp and a 107in Dutch tall case clock with music box were among the important entries that sold online in Alderfer's March 4 sale. Each of the three items falls under the heading of “large,” “fragile,” or both, but it didn't deter Internet bidders from aggressively pursuing the premium lots to a winning conclusion.
Alderfer's had made arrangements for The Packaging Store, a third-party professional shipping company, to handle all the packing and shipping needs of successful bidders requiring such a service, including those who participated via LiveAuctioneers.com. It obviously paid off.
The low-back Philadelphia Windsor chair, dating from 1760-1780, had been estimated at $3,000-5,000, but finished at $7,500, thanks to eight strong bids.
The coveted Pairpoint “Puffy” art glass table lamp with pink and yellow rose decoration was signed and dated July 9, 1907 . It performed brightly, selling within its estimate range for $10,000.
A stunning 107in Dutch tall case clock with decoratively inlaid burled walnut case, turned columns and a central finial depicting Atlas with the world on his shoulders, was an auction star. Made by Nicholas Weylandt of Amsterdam , the clock is capable of playing 12 different tunes – making it not only decorative and useful, but entertaining as well. The time was right for one lucky Internet bidder to acquire the handsome clock, which sold for $15,000.
