March 12th, 2004

HOLLYWOOD , Calif. - A collection of Oscar-winning designer Edith Head's original sketches and actual costumes designed for Hollywood 's greatest stars of the Golden Era will be sold online together with the collections of Phyllis Diller and Lorna Luft, March 26 through April 4. The sale, which showcases close to 500 items – all to be offered without reserve to the highest bidder – is produced by JulienEntertainment.com and will be hosted by LiveAuctioneers in conjunction with eBayLiveAuctions.

Famed comedian Phyllis Diller is personally offering more than 150 items that reveal her signature style and celebrate her 50 years in show business. Judy Garland's daughter, Lorna Luft, is sharing a group of more than 40 costumes created for the Emmy Award-winning television special Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows . The special won an unprecedented five Emmys, including one for Judy Davis' portrayal of Judy Garland.

The sale will also include more than 300 pieces from the late Edith Head's personal collection, which she gave to her friend and colleague June Van Dyke. The items have remained in the Van Dyke family until this time. This spectacular collection from Hollywood 's most famous costume designer includes a wide range of items from her 58-year career in film. The inventory includes more than 125 original sketches, many of which are signed by Edith Head, screen-worn costumes and other costumes specially made for her fashion shows in the 1950s, ‘60s and 70's, which featured recreations of classics designed for Robert Redford and Paul Newman in The Sting , Elizabeth Taylor in A Place in the Sun , Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and Sabrina , Olivia de Havilland in The Heiress , Hedy Lamarr in Samson and Delilah , Grace Kelly in To Catch A Thief , Lucille Ball in Facts of Life , and many others. Also included is the custom-designed piece Ms. Head wore to receive her 1974 Oscar for her work on The Sting .

The highlights from all three collections will be on display March 4 through April 4 at The Hollywood Museum located in the historic Max Factor Building at 1660 N. Highland Avenue at Hollywood Boulevard . The museum is open Thursdays through Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm . All are invited to attend a reception on March 27 at 6:30 p.m. with Phyllis Diller and Lorna Luft in attendance.

“We are delighted that the museum will allow fans to view firsthand the sketches and costumes created for superstars by Edith Head in some of Hollywood 's most memorable movies,” said Darren Julien, owner of JulienEntertainment. Every item is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

All items will be illustrated and able to be viewed prior to sale on LiveAuctioneers.com.
