Three centuries of history are up for sale in October 11th online auction of authentic Americana
October 6, 2003
New York City – How much would you pay for a copy of Albert Einstein's book, Mein Weltbild , signed by the famous physicist? Or a Colonial Indenture, autographed by none other than Benjamin Franklin?
These and more than 1500 other autographs, paintings, textiles, maps, coins, and other items of Americana will be for sale at Early American History Auctions, Inc. (EAHA) in Rancho Santa Fe, California, on October 11, 2003. But you don't have to travel to the West Coast for a chance to own a piece of history. The event will be hosted online by Live Auctioneers, allowing collectors across the globe to bid on items of interest via the Internet as the sale takes place.
Titled the Mail Bid auction, the event will feature 1,537 lots covering 300 years of authentic, historic Americana , from the mid-1600s to the mid-1900s. Highlights include an 1860 “Hesler” Photograph of a beardless Abraham Lincoln, expected to sell for $4,500-$6,500; a bound series of British Anti-Slavery pamphlets from 1749-1798, estimated at $4000-$6000; and a large planchet 1652 Massachusetts “Pine Tree” Shilling, expected to bring $9,000-$12,000.
