Oct. 1 Power House Art Auction 2004 features top contemporary artists

Power House, the acclaimed facility considered by many to be Memphis’ premier showcase for contemporary art, will host its benefit Power House Art Auction 2004 on Oct. 1. Bidders will be able to bid live via the Internet through www.liveauctioneers.com. “In keeping with our international mission, we’re making the art available to bidders all over the world,” said James Patterson, president of Delta Axis, the organization that runs Power House.
After registering with LiveAuctioneers.com, online bidders will have the option of viewing the fully illustrated catalog online and placing absentee bids in advance of the sale, or logging on to the LiveAuctioneers website on sale day to participate in the auction in real time. The event will feature work by such notable artists as William Eggleston, Huger Foote, Beth Edwards, Sam Mockbee, Allen Frame, Terri Jones, Damien Hirst, Nikki Lee, Ted Faiers, and many more. “This is the first art auction fundraiser for Delta Axis,” said Patterson, “so we selected artists who’ve exhibited through Delta Axis before, and who’ve supported us over the last 14 years.”
This year Delta Axis celebrates 14 years of support to contemporary art in the Memphis region. Programs include exhibitions at Power House and Marshall Arts, the Indie Memphis Film Festival and special film screenings, and collaborations with other art organizations including University of Memphis Art Museum and Memphis College of Art. Patterson noted, “Power House is our newest project and needs more dollars to increase the number and type of shows we bring to the community.”
