Kamelot Auctions Important French Estate Sept. 28-29

Sept. 7 , 2007

( PHILADELPHIA) - Kamelot Auctions is offering more than 800 lots in its fall two-day sale starting Sept. 28. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide live, online and absentee bidding for those unable to attend the event in person. “We received a referral to contact a local Philadelphia family with a long line of French ancestry," said Kamelot Auctions owner Joseph Holahan. "Upon viewing the items in the family’s storage unit, we knew we had found something special.” After the family’s last remaining descendant in France passed on, their personal belongings were shipped to the family in Philadelphia in the late 1970’s where the items have remained untouched and in storage for nearly 30 years.

Of the 800 lots in the two-day sale, more than 200 come from the estate of this very prominent French family. Highlights of the estate to be sold on Sept. 28 include a large bronze sculpture collection including an important Russian bronze by Mark Matveevich Antokolsky (1843 – 1902) estimated to sell for $20,000 - $30,000; a very select group of decorative arts which include a rare pair of dore bronze lamps by Francois Raoul Larche (French 1860 – 1912) expected to bring between $18,000 - $24,000; a three-piece French bronze figural clock set with a pre-sale estimate of $15,000 - $25,000; more than twenty listed European paintings; and a wonderful French art glass collection. One of the paintings is a late 17th century Old Master of Saint Sebastian, found in its original untouched condition. The painting, which is estimated to sell between $6,000 - $9,000, is sure to be one of the stand-outs of the sale.

Sept. 29 will feature more than 450 lots of furniture and lighting with an array of styles and periods. Examples of items spanning the last three centuries include a late 18th century Italian commode, a 19th century English Chinoiserie decorated cabinet and a Parzinger ivory lacquer buffet with brass stud decoration.

“This is a rare opportunity to purchase exceptional family heirlooms from France that have not been seen outside the family for more than 100 years," said Kamelot’s Jeffrey Henkel who had the task of cataloging much of the sale’s offerings. "The family had an eye for quality and the resources to buy the most sought after names of the day including Galle, Linke, and Tiffany.”

The entire illustrated catalog is available on LiveAuctioneers' Web site at www.LiveAuctioneers.com.
