Jean and Michael Strahan collection to be sold at Millea Brothers

Sept. 14 , 2007

( MORRISTOWN, N.J.) – Following a highly publicized divorce, the New York Giants' five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan and wife Jean Strahan are selling the contents of their 1906, 12 room Georgian Revival mansion in Montclair, N.J.. The estate will be sold at auction on Friday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. by Millea Bros. Ltd. The auction will be comprised of 221 lots of American and Continental furniture, decorative objects, lighting and carpets, as well as European old master and 19th century American paintings removed from their New Jersey home. Online bidding will be available at LiveAuctioneers.com for those who are not able to attend in person.

Purchased by the couple in 2000, the Strahan's 2.3-acre property was transformed into a turn-of-the-century show-home by interior designers, landscapers and the Strahans themselves, who were consumed with restoring one of Montclair's grand old mansions to its former glory. During this time, the Strahans became avid collectors, amassing the collection of period antique furnishings, fine art, carpets and lighting that will come to the auction block on Sept. 14.

Highlights from the collection include a massive oak sideboard attributed to R.J. Horner, NY; a Victorian bronze-mounted walnut billiards table; a set of six Eastlake carved walnut oversized armchairs; a pair of Victorian patinated spelter figural lamps after models by Louis Hottot (1834-1905, French); a fine Chinese silk carpet measuring 13’9" by 19’9"; antique Louis Vuitton luggage; an antique Neo-classical style gilt wood pier mirror; a Regina 15.5-inch musical disk player and mahogany cabinet stand; a Continental Baroque style carved and polychrome painted walnut 14 piece dining room suite; "The Rape of Europa" Italian School oil painting from the 18th or 19th century and measuring 66” by 54”; watercolor by Frank F. English (1854-1922, American); an antique Italian Renaissance style carved walnut five-piece bedroom suite; a Rococo Revival carved and figured walnut half-tester bed; and a Provincial French style walnut bergere with football toile and “Madonna Della Sedia” after Raphael (late 19th century Italian School) oil painting in antique Florentine frame.
