ORLANDO – Following the closing of the MotorSports Museum of Orlando, the entire collection of rare motorcycles and motorsports memorabilia will be auctioned October 7. World of Décor Auctions is organizing the Orlando auction, while real-time Internet bidding via LiveAuctioneers.com is giving racing fans worldwide the opportunity to bid on these rare items. Highlights of the auction include:
• The only-known official “Dale Earnhardt #3” race-used stock car not privately owned by Richard Childress Racing
• Danny Miller’s 1970 Plastic Fantastic championship funny car
• E.J.Potter’s “Michigan Mad-Man” Whizzer bike
• Steve McQueen’s 1967 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle, with certificate of authenticity, ridden by the late actor in the movie “The Great Escape”
• The #355 “Grumpy Old Men” Lakester racecar, which set 14 world records, and is race-ready to set another
The auction also boasts the most extensive personal Vintage Triumph motorcycle collections in the world, spanning the 1920s-1970s and including Bonnevilles, Tigers, and Thunderbirds. Other vintage motorcycles among the collection include MV Agusta, BMW, BSA, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Indian, Sunbeam, Royal Enfield, Benelli, Kawasaki and Ariel to name a few.
The items for sale are from the private collection of Boyd Uzzell, a racing and motorcycle enthusiast, who accumulated more than 240 motorcycles through a period of 40 years. Uzzell felt it would be a shame not to share his private collection of some of the rarest bikes ever made with the rest of the world, so he opened the MotorSports Museum of Orlando to showcase his collection. Despite his best efforts to keep the museum open, the facility has closed. The public now has a rare chance to purchase and own these unique items from Uzzell’s collection.
