NASA Prototype Mercury Spacesuit by I.L.C. An early study in Mercury program space suit design, this nylon-cloth prototype has heavy zippers, flexible neoprene corrugated joints, oxygen hose recepticle, neckring for helmet, and cooling hoses. Although it could be pressurized to 3.5psi, its design permitted a high degree of mobility and could be donned by the astronaut in 5 minutes. In poor condition with tears and degraded material, this very early prototype is an important milestone in the development of the space suit. Extremely rare.
