roland's shipper overcharges. don't do business with them

I have no problem with Roland Auctions PER SE as they are a responsive auction house. However, Roland Auctions should not be placing UPS NY among their list of recommended suppliers for packing and shipping of highly fragile items (fragile porcelain) I won a rare Italian Hollywood Regency style garden stool from them and the item practically arrived in Florida like a smashed hamburger. Packaging from UPS clearly showed that they do not have sufficient experience packing fragile chinese/italian porcelain. While my item had bubble wrap around it, there was no styro chips to cushion the porcelain in case the box dropped. However, there was a 1 "styro board placed around the box. With established chinese porcelain packers/shippers, they normally ensure that you have styro chips swimming all around the item to cushion it in case the box fell. Mine did not, so it practically arrived super shattered because it was not able to bounce from the fall. UPS was also a major mess at handling the claims as it took 3 months of following up for progress. Things do not move there unless you repeatedly call to ask for updates. They even asked me to ship the super shattered porcelain to their warehouse because they wanted to see MORE proof. However, I adamantly refused as shipping an already super shattered porcelain was only going to make matters worse-what proof will they still see if the item arrives powdered in their warehouse? I already sent loads of pictures showing the damage-what more does UPS want to see to show that they didn't know how to pack fragile porcelain properly. Shipping the already shattered porcelain to their warehouse would have only destroyed existing evidence of UPS 'inability to properly pack fragile porcelain. I maintained that UPS can always visit the house if they wanted to inspect the item-it was very important for me to preserve the evidence for claims. After 3 months countless follow ups, I finally got my check from UPS. Stay away from UPS!
