The Right Side
When the table arrived, it was immediately clear to me why Abell chose not to publish pictures of the right side of the table. The right side of the table had been badly damaged at some point, requiring significant boulle replacement. The boulle had been repaired very amateurishly, and was easily distinguishable. Additionally, the damage required structural repairs and modifications, and these, too, were undertaken amateurishly. Had I-or the other bidders-seen the extent of the damage/repairs beforehand, it is extremely unlikely that the bidding activity would have been as spirited. Based upon the purchases I have made in several Abell auctions, I would be very reluctant to do so ever again.

Lamentably, when my shipper came to collect the cabinet, and was alarmed to see a crack in its glass door, Abell told the shipper that I was already aware/had previously been notified of the damage. I hadn't, and was more than a little annoyed to have this information conveyed to me from my concerned shipper, and not Abell. Additionally, I noted far more damage on the cabinet than can be discerned from the auction's photographs. I won two lots in this particular auction, and neither of the lot's photographs (or descriptions) fully encapsulated the degree of wear/damage present with both lots. Had the photographs fully represented the true nature of the damage to these lot, it's entirely unlikely that I would have placed bids on either. Based on my experiences participating in several Abel auctions, and winning several lots, I am now reluctant to do so again.

A Great Experience!
Abell made it so easy and satisfying to participate in their auction. My items arrived exactly as described. Abell has great customer service: they answered my pre-auction question about the item quickly, were friendly and forthcoming about it, and then processed my payment quickly and conveniently when I was high bidder. They also turned me on to Tom at Post and Pack who collected, wrapped and shipped my items (fragile ceramics) quickly and expertly. I had a great experience with Abell.

Items Not as Advertised
The photos of two powder boxes I had bid on clearly showed swansdown powder puffs in each box which was one of the main reasons I had bid on these. Swansdown puffs are very rare and I buy them when I find them so I was buying these almost as much for the puffs as the boxes. When I received them, there were no puffs in either box. I contacted Abell right away and did not receive a response. Even after a second email, I still did not receive a reply. I will not buy from them again as I consider this to be false advertising since I clearly did not receive the complete items but only partial. Very disappointing.

Very disappointing
What i received was NOTHING like the photos listed. I even asked for condition report before bidding it said nothing of white paint fingerprints in multiple places on the piece. I contacted the shipper upon opening he knew nothing i contacted the auction they knew nothing. It was like i was in an episode of Hogan's Hero's. I buy $1, 000/week i paid $1, 250 for this plus another $180 to ship it and i got a piece that is ruined and NOT as described. Neither the auction or shipper UPS 2778 were interested at all. Over the last couple years i have bought from them 4-5 times maybe $3-$4, 000 but i wont be back they are both untrustworthy and unwilling to make a mistake right. So beware what seems like a good deal may or may not be.

Although the item arrived broken, Abell Auction was a good seller
They gave me full credit for my payment within 30 days and allowed me to keep the broken item. That is customer service! although I would prefer to have the birds in mint condition their packaging company made sure I got my money back.
