It was founder Charles Francis Humbert, from Switzerland, who originally started the family's auctioneering business in the UK in the mid 1800's in Watford and St. Albans. This would eventually grow to form the foundation of "Humberts", the UK's leading nationwide prestige property agents, land estate managers and auctioneers; headed up until the 1980's by his great-grandson, Col.Robert Humbert OBE, TD, DL, FRICS, FIA - Jonathan's grandfather. While Humberts subsequently saw many structural changes and eventually merged with Chestertons, it was Jonathan Humbert (with over a decade's experience as an antiques dealer) who took over the gavel and continued the family's business involvement in auctioneering.
