Cowan's was founded by Wes Cowan, an internationally recognized expert in historic Americana. Wes is a featured appraiser on Antiques Roadshow and is a frequently requested speaker at antiques events around the country. Wes is licensed as an auctioneer in Ohio and holds a BA and MA in anthropology from the University of Kentucky, and a PhD in anthropology from the University of Michigan.
In 2019, Cowan's and Leslie Hindman Auctioneers joined forces to broaden and strengthen their presence nationwide by forming a new entity: Hindman. Both firms are committed to connecting local communities to the global art market by providing excellent service across all categories, sales channels, and price points. The merger adds offices in Chicago; Atlanta; Milwaukee; Naples, FL; Palm Beach, FL; Scottsdale, AZ; and St. Louis to Cowan's network.

The people at this auction house are very professional, responsive, and helpful. The shipping department is very skilled. The packing job on the guns that I purchases was a thing of beauty.

1886 Parker Bro's 10ga. Shotgun
Gun is actually nicer than I expected... There are more stress cracks than described but not much more trouble to repair... Shipping was fine on Cowan's part... UPS could have broken the gun into three parts and packed in egg crate foam making a smaller package... Bubblewrap and somewhat loose in the box is not good... No damage but more likely with the way it was packed... Also, UPS shoved it on my porch leaving a foot hanging off which got wet with rain... Still no damage... Again, no fault of Cowan's... Very pleased with the gun and Cowan's despite UPS fumbling...

Best in class auction house
Delighted with the quality of photo's for each listing and accurate descriptions. A timely response to inquiry for additional information. I contacted Cowans after processing payment and the item purchased was shipped immediately. Plus great job of double boxing/packing. I will not hesitate to bid on items in future Cowans auctions.
