American Indian Art

The auction consists of a vast selection historic American Indian art including basketry, Plains beadwork and artifacts, Navajo textiles, southwest jewelry, Northwest Coast artifacts, parfleche and Pueblo pottery. Notable works include a Navajo First Phase concha belt, a Classic Period Navajo Serape, a Germantown Navajo Chief's blanket variant, a Classic Period Cheyenne cradleboard, a pictorial Sioux woman’s dress, an extremely rare Southeastern sash dating to the second quarter of the nineteenth century, a Classic Period Blackfoot parfleche, a rare large Lakota Sioux pictorial muslin, an Apache grain basket, a Northwest Coast raven rattle, a Zuni pictorial jar with heartline deer, and an Acoma four color parrot jar.

In addition to the historic works, the auction also includes contemporary pottery by artists including Maria Martinez, Helen Cordero, Lucy Lewis, Toni Roller, Richard and Virginia Ebelacker, Margaret Tafoya and more.

Photography by Edward Sherriff Curtis includes a Goldtone of The Vanishing Race, a portrait of Chief Joseph – Nez Perce as well as a selection of photogravures. Additionally, there are a number of hand colored lithographs by George Catlin, Mckenney & Hall and Charles Bird King.

Contemporary paintings include works by Paul Pletka, John Hauser Jr., Fritz Scholder, Donald Crowley, Vigil, R.C. Gorman, John Moyers and William Acheff.
