Asian Works of Art

The September 26 auction will offer Asian Works of Art, including the arts of China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia dating from the Neolithic Period through the 20th century. Objects include pottery and porcelain, jade, scholar's objects, bronzes, screens and paintings. Highlighting the sale is a rare Chinese stucco panel depicting elegant women, dating to the Song/Ming Dynasty and measuring 70 inches tall (lot 1172). Also noteworthy is a Chinese fresco panel of a female in a cart led by a phoenix flanked by attendants and measuring 60 inches tall (lot 1193). Two Chinese early Ming Dynasty painted stucco figures of female musicians, the tallest 15 inches in height, are certain to attract attention (lot 1171). The sale offers a large group of Chinese porcelain, including mark and period pieces highlighted by a Chinese teadust glazed porcelain vase measuring 12 7/8 inches tall with an incised Qianlong mark on the base and of the Period (lot 1397). Blue and white porcelain is highlighted by a Chinese blue and white glazed porcelain vase, 17 3/4 inches tall and dating to the 18th century (lot 1360). Among the selection of earlier period Chinese ceramics is a Chinese marbled stoneware vase, Tang/Song Dynasty, height 8 1/2 inches (lot 1164). From Japan are a group of Meiji Period ivory figures from a private collection and a small group of Japanese woodblock prints.
