Art & Antiques: Currency, Drawings, Sculpture

The September 10, 2017 sale at Worth Auctions will feature a broad range of art and antiques, with particular focus on colonial American currency, Old Master works on paper, and decorative wooden carvings from the fifteenth through the twentieth centuries. Colonial currency specimens of note include a 1773 five-pound note from the Colony of Virginia; a United Colonies bill printed by Hall & Sellers in 1777; and a ten-shilling note printed by Benjamin Franklin under George II in 1759. Among many important Old Master prints and drawings are a fine impression of Albrecht Durer's 1507 engraving ?Lamentation,? a pen and ink study of the Pieta attributed to Federico Zuccaro; and a rendering of the Sacrifice of Isaac attributed to Jacopo da Empoli. Unique and desirable carvings include pair of Italian Baroque ex-voto angels; an articulated polychrome folk art Santos figure; and a monumental openwork ebony sculpture by the modern Tanzanian artist Pesa Yakobo. The sale will also feature fine and costume jewelry, designer mid-century modern furnishings, entertainment autographs, modern paintings, vintage tobacciana, black Americana photogravure prints, antiquarian horology, early folk and rock ephemera, Judaica metalwork, and much more. Further complementary material will be offered in future sessions throughout the fall and winter of 2017.
