Dargates Premier Art & Antiques Auction A297

Dargates Premier Fall Auction Dargates October 2017 Premier Art and Antiques Estate Auction. Features an assortment of Antiques, Oil Paintings, Lithographs, R. Lalique Crystal, Porcelain, Religious Icons, Ancient Religious Artifacts, Sterling Silver, Coins, Jewelry, Clocks, 18th C. and 19th C. French Furniture, Mid-Century Modern Furniture, Oriental Rugs, and Collectibles from several local estates. The estates and collections include the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Collection, Fr. Dimitri Callozzo Religious Icon Collection and The Mail Pouch Tobacco Estate Collection. Edouard S. Ziegler and his wife Simone Jaguin Ziegler were world travelers and dual French-U.S. citizens who made their final home in Wheeling, West Virginia. Edouard was the grandson of Samuel who together with his brother Aaron Bloch, founded Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company in Wheeling in 1879. The Bloch brothers developed Mail Pouch Tobacco, a popular chewing tobacco sold in a paper sack resembling a mail pouch. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, thousands of rural barns painted with a Mail Pouch Tobacco advertisement (?Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco Treat yourself to the best?) once dotted the Ohio Valley landscape, and the Mail Pouch barn became an iconic representation of folk art advertising. Edouard Ziegler died in 1995, and Simone Ziegler passed in 2016. Dargate is pleased to offer this selection of furniture and decorative arts from their Wheeling home.
