Art and Art-Related Books and Ephemera

Our February 11th auction will be an art-focused catalog. Original artwork, books, a large collection of antique photographs dating back to the mid-1800’s, and a huge collection of vintage posters and prints will be offered. The posters and prints include a quantity of striking artist-designed European tourism posters dating back to the 1930’s and many early commercial airline promotional posters. The items from that collection have been shrinkwrapped with stiff backing (winning absentee bids will be shipped in tubes). There is also a collection of silent film star and early 20th century vocalist photographs with original signatures and a first edition copy of “Charlotte’s Web” with interesting Hollywood provenance.

Artwork will include original oil paintings dating back to the mid-1800's, drawings and other forms, from antique through modern. A rare inclusion with the artwork, we also will be offering a limited edition, massive bronze sculpture of a sea turtle. Among the framed artwork are several Far Eastern pieces and Southwest American Indian prints.

The books include a collection of several hundred volumes relating to the work of Winslow Homer. That collection centers on hundreds of antique magazine bound compilations which feature works by Homer. These books are from a lifelong collector of Homer’s works and include two very scarce copies of the first recorded publishing of illustrations by Homer, “Hunter’s Ottawa Scenery” (1855). We also have additions of many other antique magazine compilations that we have been accumulating from other estates and consignments.
