Major Chinese & Asian Antiques Auction
This auction is divided into two sessions with more than 575 lots total, taking place on a single day. The first session (lot numbers before 8500) is comprised solely of items from a San Francisco gold rush era family estate, with antiques from four generations of collecting, totaling more than 275 lots. The family arrived in San Francisco in 1847 and became founding members of the Pacific Mining Exchange. Traveling to China at the beginning of the 20th century, they amassed one of the largest privately held collections of Asian antiques on the West Coast. Featured lots from this estate include an 18th century jade bell with inscription and matching jade scepter, a pair of Qing Dynasty famille rose elephants, a pair of famille rose revolving vases with a Jiaqing iron red six character mark, and a pair of Tang Dynasty figures. Also from this estate is a collection of more than 80 snuff bottles. In the second session of the auction (lot numbers 8500 and beyond), featured offerings include flambe pottery from the G.T. Marsh Collection, a pair of Huanhuali lamp stands, Chinese and Japanese cloisonné, as well as Chinese jade carvings, cinnabar, and a large selection of pottery and porcelain. Chinese and Japanese paintings will also be offered, including a framed work by Zhang Daqian. Other highlights include tanka paintings, teapots, Chinese jade jewelry, carved wood stands, and a collection of Thai silver and figures.
