March 9 | Gallery Auction

Featured in March are Karl Bodmer's wonderful 19th century engravings of the American West, images of Native Americans that capture their diversity and individuality. "Fairies in Iris" ($1,500-$2,500), by artist and illustrator Harold Gaze, is a charming nostalgic work from the 1930s. Paintings by the Haitian artists Fernand Pierre and Gabriel Alix are featured. A large mixed media piece by California artist Mary Heebner (b. 1950) is offered from the estate of Barbara Belle Brookins, prominent Bay Area businesswoman and SF Symphony patron. Woodblock prints by the great master Hiroshige are highlighted in Asian art, where snuff bottles, porcelains, jade and fine embroidered textiles also await collectors. A lavish jewelry suite of precious gems set in 22k gold, by a contemporary jeweler in the Mughal style, is offered at $30,000-$50,000. Bead necklaces include "ombré" sapphires ($1,800-$2,500) and ancient Persian etched carnelian ($600-$700). Great finds abound in fine collectibles and estate furnishings such as the bamboo form dining set ($1,000-$1,500) by McGuire of San Francisco.
