This catalog presents a select arrangement of rare, antique and decorative books. Featured are modern firsts and desirable examples of Limited Editions Club publications, spanning several decades. Deluxe antique bindings and sets will be offered along with an array of titles relating to art history and antique children?s books, including dozens of Big Little Books. Antique and rare books are numerous in this catalog. Among the earliest examples are Milton?s ?Paradise Lost? and ?Paradise Regained,? produced in three volumes with engraved plates in the years 1775 and 1777, and Nicholson?s ?Dictionary of Practical and Theoretical Chemistry,? printed in 1808 with plates and folding engravings. Additional rare finds include Lydekker?s ?Royal Natural History,? published in six volumes over the years 1893 to 1896 with chromolithograph plates, the scarce 1985 hard cover folio edition of Richard Avedon?s ?In the American West,? and first printings of multiple works by British Prime Minister Winston Spencer Churchill. Several private collections will be showcased. An array of modern firsts, many in their original dust jackets, are led by Hemingway titles such as ?Death in the Afternoon,? ?Old Man and the Sea? and ?A Moveable Feast.? Other modern first printings include periodical releases of William Faulkner short stories and John Steinbeck?s ?Russian Journal.? Vintage and antique children?s books include Victorian gilt decorative bindings, chromolithograph illustrations and an array of Big Little Books, Better Little Books and other pulp titles from the same period. A large personal collection of art history titles, with an emphasis on modern art, will be offered as will a sizable group of Limited Editions Club fine bindings. Found throughout this catalog are other compelling selections from categories such as books-on-books, limited editions, signed copies, history, literature, travel & exploration, military history, theology and more.
