This catalog presents a select arrangement of rare, antique and decorative books. Featured is a private library of Civil War history titles, including a quantity of Confederate works. Additional offerings contain a number of important author signatures, modern firsts and early Americana. Antique and rare books are numerous in this catalog. Among the particularly interesting examples are the scarce 1922 first printing of Emily Post?s landmark ?Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics and at Home,? an author-signed limited first edition of Sir Laurence Olivier?s ?On Acting,? and the very rare 1851 printing of Semmes? ?Service Afloat and Ashore during the Mexican War.? Additional desirable finds relating to early American history include the rare and decorative 1909 first edition of Rye?s Western chronicle, ?The Quirt and the Spur,? containing an original drawing and inscription by the author, a very rare first edition of Halbert and Ball?s ?The Creek War of 1813 and 1814,? and Bryant and Gay?s ?Popular History of the United States,? produced in four volumes over the years 1878 to 1880 and bound in decorative leather. Several private collections will be showcased. The Civil War histories are led by examples such as the scarce first edition of Clark?s ?Histories of the Several Regiments and Battalions from North Carolina in the Great War 1861-?65,? published in five volumes, and another rare Semmes title, ?Service Afloat - Sumter and Alabama during the War between the States.? There are also a number of contemporary rare modern finds including advance reading copies, and signed and limited editions by prominent names such as Stephen King, James Michener, Harlan Ellison, Robert Ludlum, Maya Angelou and others.
