Stefek's Mid-Summer Modern and More auction features a wide variety of furniture, fine art, and more, ranging from mid-century modern, late nineteenth century furniture, and fine and decorative art pieces. Our mid-century modern selections highlight Danish Modern design, featuring a pair of "Z" lounge chairs by Poul Jensen, the "Swan" chair by Arne Jacobsen, and the "TV161" modular sofa by Hans Olsen for Bramin. Other Danish designers include Arne Vodder for France & Sons, Folke Ohlsson for Dux, Kurt Olsen for Glostrup, Einar Barnes for PS Heggen, Nils Thorsson for Royal Copenhagen, and Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen. In addition to our fine collection of Danish modern furniture, Stefek's will also present a unique selection of Danish modern jewelry by David Andersen, Kupittaan Kulta, Poul Warmind, and Eigil Jensen for Anton Michelsen. Highlights from our late nineteenth century furniture collection include a pair of Italian burl wood side tables, a unique walnut tilt top table, two inlaid music cabinets, and a carved mahogany dining set. Our fine and decorative arts collection features artists such as Andre Gisson with two oil on canvas landscape paintings, a floral oil on canvas by Le Pho, a pair of John Faed oil on canvas genre scenes circa 19th century, an oil on canvas landscape by Dutch-American artist J.A. Hekking, and two gouache and collage on paper card bird paintings by Charley Harper. The decorative arts selection features a large collection of Herend Porcelain in the "Rothschild" pattern, in addition to a set of unique hand-painted porcelain plates with gilt detail dating to 1926 by William J. Bagnall for Royal Worcester. Several lots of rare books will be presented, including an 1837 copy of Charles Dickens' "The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club," an 1848 leather bound copy of William Thackeray's "Vanity Fair" with watercolor sketch, and the personal copy of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" belonging to author Eugene Field.
