Fine and Decorative Arts, Western and Asian
A diverse sale of antique, vintage, Western, mid-century and modern art including works by Pablo Picasso, Joe Beeler, William Cumming, Ray Hill, Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, William Pierce Tubbs, Hermann Gladenbeck monumental bronze torchiere lamps, Achille Vertunni, Carlo Ferranti, Michael Horse, Edward Curtis, Rob Akey, Nicholas Oberling, Robert Cavanaugh, Rudolph Von Ripper, Samuel Joseph Brown and many, many more. Native American items include Edward Curtis silver gelatin photographs, photogravures and ephemera from the Lois Flury collection of Edward Curtis Photography and Ephemera, Old Western Chaps with bucking broncos, Haida carved totem, large Apache basket and more. Asian items Chinese porcelain, textiles, jade carvings, rank badges, Japanese daggers and more. Lots of sterling with large and impressive pedestal bowl, partial flatware sets, Russian silver, collection of fish slices, dresser sets and more. Jewelry includes a gorgeous plumeria gold and diamond necklace with earrings, designer fine jewelry, pocket watches and more. Additionally, a nice grouping of Chinese inlaid rosewood furniture purchased in Hong Kong that includes sets of chairs, bar, desk and more. The Asian furniture is highlighted by a pair of finely carved Chinese matching small cabinets with bats motif. Our highlight lot in this auction is the pair of Hermann Gladenbeck bronze torchieres. Standing over six feet tall each, they were purchased at Butterfield and Butterfield (now Bonhams) in 1975. These bronze torchieres are purported to have been displayed at the 1915 Pan Pacific Exposition but attempts to photo match have proven difficult and that fact has not been established. The auction is finished out with an interesting assortment of oriental rugs, studio pottery, etchings, Militaria, Civil War memorabilia, illustration art, etchings, photo albums, photographic images and more rare and unusual objects.
