December 7 Gallery Auction

Michaan’s celebrates the genius of Louis Comfort Tiffany in December with the sale of iconic Tiffany Studios lamps such as the dragonfly lamp and the ‘curtain border’ glass and bronze hanging lamp. Fine period lighting also includes the French Art Deco chandelier of iron and glass by Edgar Brandt for Daum, and Duffner and Kimberly’s circa 1910 water lily table lamp. A leading highlight is the splendid 19th century sterling ‘elephant head’ bowl by Tiffany & Co. In fine jewelry and timepieces there are many lovely pieces from the estate of Sylvia Blumenfeld, also featured in the Winter Fine Sale on December 6. These include jewels by Stephen Dweck, David Yurman, Hermès, Chanel and Kai-Yin Lo. Period jewelry and fine gemstones such as diamonds and jade are offered . A special highlight of the December Gallery Auction is the selection of works by acclaimed South Asian modern artists Sayed Haider Raza, Abdur Rahman Chughtai, Ram Kumar and M. F. Husain. California Impressionists are featured. American artists range from Cecil Crosley Bell and William Chadwick to Leroy Neiman and Benjamino Bufano. Asian art from a distinguished San Francisco collection includes the 5th Century Chinese gilt bronze Buddhist altarpiece and the rare bronze standing figure of Shakyamuni. A 19th Century Taoist priest’s dragon robe of embroidered imperial yellow silk, a lingbi scholar’s rock and fine Chinese porcelains are among the highlights.
