Books, Postcards etc. - Civil War, Photos

This large auction will include a broad range of books and ephemera items from area estates and consignments. The catalog includes 550 lots, offering approximately 1,500 volumes along with thousands of vintage and antique postcards and other ephemera. Due to the amount of cataloging work involved and the quantity of material we have on hand, we will be selling our stamps and coins at a separate auction in the early spring. The books in this auction range from modern to antique and include many signed and important editions.

The bulk of the ephemera in this auction comprises several thousand postcards, both loose and in albums. The postcards came to us from several estates and consignments we have been working with over the past year. You will find real photo, Victorian lithograph, holiday, views (small towns, landmarks, cities, etc.), advertising and most other genres of collectible postcards. Other ephemera includes antique bound periodical volumes such as an 1863 New York Times volume with considerable civil war content, photography-related material, and civil war letters.

Book highlights of this auction include a c1838 printing of John Holt Ibbetson'sSpecimens in Eccentric Circular Turning, an original 1893 printing of Theron Hiles'The Ice Crop, an 1897 first edition of Wallis-Tayler's Motor Cars or Power-Carriages for Common Roads, and a copy of the scarce 1976 two-volume set of Robert Gunther'sThe Astrolabes of the World. Also featured are several important reference works about clocks and other technical workings.

Featured book and ephemera categories include: vintage & antique children's books; United States history; biographies; world history; theology; author-signed books; philosophy and theology; math and sciences; archaeology and anthropology; medicine; literary studies; social commentary; zoology; and other antique books and ephemera.
