Works from The Giuseppe Rossi Collection
The auction includes Italian and French furniture, ormolu-mounted Chinese and European porcelain, Old Master paintings and drawings, silver, clocks, and ceramics. Particularly notable is a group of works from Turin, Piedmont and Genoa including lots with Royal provenance. The works offered here were collected by the renowned collector and dealer Giuseppe Rossi (1914–1989). His singular interest was the evolution of European decorative arts through the 18th century, from the Baroque to Neoclassicism, with a specific focus on northern Italy and France. Many of the works have been in the collection for more than 50 years. Based in Turin, Dottor Rossi developed a truly international reputation, enticing notable clients from all four corners of the globe. Throughout his career, Rossi worked alongside his sister Maria Luisa Rossi (1919-2017), and this collection is formed of those works which she prized and retained for her own very private collection. The collection is being offered for sale following Miss Rossi’s death, with the proceeds being donated to charity which will help support the work of the Scuola per Artigiani Restauratori, Turin, which she co-founded in 1994.
