American and European Paintings

Cowan's will be offering an outstanding variety of Fine Art in their Spring European and American Paintings and Works on Paper Auction. The sale will take place on March 12, 2009 and will feature 200 lots of Continental and American works, including a magnificent selection of Emile Gruppe (American/Massachusetts, 1896-1978) oils.

Continenal and Russian works include two paintings by Enrico Tarenghi (Italian, 1849-1938) and a wonderful sanguine on paper by Alexander Iacovleff (Russian, 1887-1938).

American featured lots include the First "Trip" Book, by well-known Andy Warhol Superstar and socialite, Brigid (Polk) Berlin ( American, b. 1939), a recognized still life by De Scott Evans (American 1847-1898) entitled Free Sample, and an exceptional Rolf Stoll (American, 1892-1978) oil, entitled Andalusian Fantasy. Other notable artists featured in the auction are Edmund Henry Osthaus, Carl Rudolph Kraft, Paul Sawyier, and William Merritt Chase.
