Fine Finds, Collectibles & Works of Art!
Featuring part of a Southern Collector's life-long collection of antique American view cameras, which collectors say do not often come on the auction market. "I've had these cameras for two decades," says our consignor, "I never thought I would part with them." Also available in this auction is an "old violin," which the label printed inside says was completed by the Hornsteiner family of Mittenwald, Germany in 1872. The violin has been masterfully restored, the original patina has been preserved and has been placed on consignment in our upcoming auction! Also included is a historical Tuscan Snaphaunce Pocket Pistol, signed by the maker, Tortiglione from the town of Stazzema, Italy. Other lots of historical significance are lots (137) A grosse point ladies evening purse with a Lazuli stone. This purse was a gift to Julie Dent Grant, wife of Ulysses S. Grant, when she lived in the "White House" from 1869-1877, by her eldest son, U.S. Grant Jr., "General Simpson." (72) An oil painting on board, a portrait of Beethoven, signed Doblin 1927. This painting hung in the New York Opera House for many years after winning a purse of $10,000 and "Best of Show" in the 1920s.
