English & Continental Furniture & Decorations

The May 18 sale will offer IMPORTANT ENGLISH AND CONTINENTAL FURNITURE AND DECORATIONS from the 17th through early 19th centuries, as well as Continental, English and Chinese export porcelain, Georgian silver, sculpture, clocks, chandeliers, sconces, tapestries, rugs and Asian works of art. The OLD MASTER PAINTINGS section of the sale will offer landscapes, still lifes, portraits and religious subjects by European artists from the Renaissance to circa 1800. A special section of the auction will be devoted to the ESTATE OF COUNTESS MARIA DE ALMAGRO BACCELLI, comprising approximately one hundred forty lots of elegant furniture, decorations, fine art, rugs and Asian works of art (lots 4190 - 4429 and 4429 - 4435). Highlights from the Baccelli Collection include a pair of Italian Neoclassical gilt-wood bilbao mirrors (lot 4182), a pair of Italian Neoclassical consoles (lot 4176), and an Italian Neoclassical commode in the manner of G. Maggiolini (lot 4181). Fine art in the Baccelli Collection includes a pair of 17th century Dutch Naval Engagements (lot 4068) and two watercolors by Charles-Louis Clerisseau (French, 1722-1820) Capriccio of Figures Among Ruins (lot 4074). Property from other owners includes an extensive Derby dinner service (lot 4393), a Regency gilt-wood convex mirror (lot 4413), and a circa 1832 terrestrial globe by W and TM Bardin, London (lot 4423). Highlighting the ASIAN WORKS OF ART is an 18th century Chinese gilt-bronze and jade ruyi sceptre (lot 4243). The Old Master paintings include Nicolaes Berchem's (Dutch, 1620-1683) Washer Woman and Livestock at a Fountain (lot 4036) and the Triumph of Achilles by the Circle of Giovanni Ghisolfi (lot 4067).
