Mississippi: Both Mississippi natives, the Howell's were avid antiquers in the Hattiesburg area. They opened the first antiques shop in Hattiesburg in the early 1960's called "White House Antiques". They operated their business on McLaurin Street in downtown Hattiesburg until 1976 when they purchased "Great Oaks" on Short Bay Street and moved their operation.
