The Jean-Marc & Danielle Belzile Collection

We are pleased to announce our first auction outside Ontario on May 13, 2023, Miller & Miller will be offering the personal collection of the late Jean-Marc and Danielle Belzile of Lachute, Quebec, consisting of 18th and 19th century Quebec furniture, folk art, sculpture and Canadiana gathered over the last six decades. The Belziles will be remembered by many who attended the Christie Show as the dealers with the red horse weathervane on their truck. But Jean-Marc and Danielle were, first and foremost, passionate personal collectors and many of their treasures can be found in reference books described as iconic, rare or unusual examples. The passion began in the 1960s, propelled forward with the release of Jean Palardy's Early Furniture of French Canada, still considered the bible for any collector of Canadiana. With this new knowledge in hand, Jean-Marc began door-knocking in the Quebec City area where they lived at the time. Being in the lumber business his entire working life, he loved wood and how it 'talked' to him, something he shared with Jean-Julien Bourgault, one of Quebec's leading sculptors of the day. Jean-Marc Belzile was a storyteller and had an excellent memory. He loved sharing the passion with fellow collectors, much more important than making a sale! The auction of the Belzile collection will be on our on-line platforms but we are excited to add that the preview and sale will be held on site in Quebec. A bilingual print catalogue will be available.
