Coins & Medals

This summer's sale of Coins & Medals offers over 400 lots ranging from hammered coinage, gold Sovereigns, proof and specimen sets to Coronation, sporting and a huge range of Military Medals. For those looking for locally significant pieces we are proud to be offering a private collection of Staffordshire Regiment Medals. Lot 210 is a wonderful example of a local hero, this Distinguished Service Order was issued very early on in the Great War to Lieutenant Frank Hugh Gunner of the South Staffordshire Regiment. Further afi eld we have an Egypt Medal awarded to a Canadian Boatman (Lot 237) with both a Nile and Kirbekan clasp, making this an unusual piece of military history. Fellows is also delighted to auction not only an original Waterloo Medal (Lot 220), but also an early replica medal (Lot 386), highlighting an interesting comparison. Outside of the sphere of warfare, the Albert Medal awarded to William Walters for Saving Life on Land is a rare example of true heroism by a civilian (Lot 396). Notable acts come in many different guises, including significant sporting achievements such as winning an Olympic Gold medal: Lot 414 was awarded to a member of the British eight man team who rowed to victory during the 1908 London Olympics. If you would like more details of any of the lots please visit our website or contact us directly and we will be happy to help
