Adell Venus Collection of Miniatures
The Adell Venus Collection of Miniatures encompasses a diverse selection of miniatures, dolls and accessories, ranging from antiques to modern day miniaturists' works. Spanning five decades, Adell's passion for collecting led to the accumulation of tens of thousands of items and is undoubtedly one of the largest and most profound collections of its kind. Adell Lifschutz was born in Chicago, Illinois on the 6th of September in 1932 and was the only child of her Russian immigrant parents. She had a modest upbringing on the north side of the city with her father, a painter, and mother, a homemaker. After she graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1950, Adell attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1952, during a visit to South Haven, Michigan she met the love of her life, Cobert "Coby" Venus. They married in 1955. Her passion for miniatures developed in the late 1960s, when Adell and Coby went to New York to attend a wedding. While in the city she visited her uncle at his jewelry store. She noticed a pair of miniature silver candlesticks and paid complement to them. Her uncle gave the candlesticks to her as a gift and, in doing so, started an unstoppable desire to collect miniatures throughout the rest of her life. Although she was very private regarding her own collection, she was often sought by others to provide her expertise in the 1:12 scale. Skilled in watercolor, pastels and charcoal, her artistic eye is evident in her collection. It embodies her spectacular taste and knowledge of the quality and value of miniatures. In addition to her role as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Adell dedicated herself to this collection. Adell passed away May 21st, 2011. We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with Adell's family and friends, and to present her phenomenal collection to the public for the first time.
