Antique & Modern Jewellery
December's auction of Antique & Modern Jewellery really goes back
to basics, beautiful Victorian memorial pieces, chic Designer numbers
and of course, classic diamonds to suit all tastes and budgets. We
have just under 650 lots to tempt you into a last minute Christmas
gift or, if you are so inclined, a treat for yourself for the festive party
season.
We are very pleased to offer a particularly delectable selection of
diamond jewellery in this auction. Lot 171 is a firm favourite, offering
a taste of luxury French workmanship with its 15cts of diamonds
sparkling in a typically Art Deco setting. Lot 159 is also an interesting
piece, designed as a stylised moth, it features around 6cts of radiant
old-cut diamonds. If you're looking for a diamond ring, you're
practically spoiled for choice as this auction offers several exquisite
ones. Lot 195 is one of the sale‘s star lots, and at 7.14cts with a VVS2
clarity it is not hard to see why. Lot 191 is a stunning mid 20th century
diamond dress ring of 1.38cts, perfect for those who are looking for a
more modern style. Lots 214, 376, 377, 447, are all wonderful examples
of gorgeous diamond rings of various designs and eras.
The sale also features some special antique pieces in the form of
Victorian memorial jewellery. A rather decadent example of this
historical jewellery can be found in lot 542, a 19th century 18ct gold
memorial locket encrusted with old cut diamonds set in onyx, a rather
flamboyant example of jewellery from this era. Lot 62 is particularly
interesting, it is a gold onyx memorial bangle issued by Queen Victoria
commemorating the death of The Duchess of Cambridge, with the
inside inscription reading 'Dear Great Aunt A. Cambridge. From Victoria
R.I. Xmas 1889'. It is not known who actually wore this somewhat
mysterious piece.
