Prehistoric and Historic Artifact Auction

This auction features prehistoric artifacts from the Roy Hathcock Collection. Roy wrote two books (Indian Pottery, 1976 and The Quapaw and their Pottery, 1983) on pottery that fostered an expanded appreciation of Mississippian and Quapaw pottery as a form of art. Forty of Roy's pottery pieces are being offered in this sale, along with some of Roy''s finest flint and hardstone. This auction features the Mace Bottle that Roy displayed in the Hero, Hawk and Open Hand Exhibit (Art Institute of Chicago), his 8" Dovetail and his finest Axes. Nearly 200 pieces from the Hathcock collection (nearly 150 lots) are being offered. Most were pictured in Roy's collection over the years in various publications (Indian Pottery, The Quapaw and their Pottery, Who's Who in Indian Relics, Legends of Prehistoric Art, Mississippian Pottery, Prehistoric American, Central States Archaeological Journal, etc.) We are very pleased to offer a group of artifacts from the collection of Galen Irwin and his son, Dr. Steve Irwin. Included in this offering are some good old Paleo points. Galen Irwin started the Irwin collection over 100 years ago. We take great pleasure in offering a portion of the Earl Riddick collection of Pre-Columbian pottery. This Pre-Columbian collection was acquired during 1960's, largely from Dr. David Harner (Greg Perino's associate while at the Gilcrease Museum). During the next 40 years, Dr. Frederick Dockstader evaluated and appraised the Riddick Collection several times. Dockstader served as the Director of the Museum of the American Indian (Heye). A 17 3/4" Standing Male Figure (Colima) highlights this offering. Other consignments round out this varied offering of fine artifacts. This is a sale you won't want to miss.
